Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation Reaches Million Dollar Milestone

Foundation Celebrates Distribution of Over $1 Million in Patient Grants

Sarasota, FL – July 6, 2015……… The Florida Cancer Specialist Foundation (FCSF), a non-profit 501c3 organization that provides financial assistance for non-medical living expenses to qualified cancer patients, celebrated a significant milestone recently. On June 19, 2015, the Foundation exceeded the million-dollar mark in the amount of patient grants that have been distributed since its inception in 2012. Twenty percent of all patient grants have been awarded to non-FCS patients.

Brad Prechtl, CEO of Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) and Board Chair of the FCS Foundation, said, “We are extremely proud to reach this exciting milestone in giving. Since 2012, the Foundation has continued to grow and each year the number of cancer patients we are able to help has increased. We also continue to see tremendous growth in the number of applications received. So far this year, the Foundation has received 25% more applications than it did in 2014 – and we anticipate that number will continue to rise.”

Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, added, “The physicians of FCS provided the initial funding for the FCS Foundation and it is certainly gratifying to reach this milestone. Our physicians, staff and other donors truly hope to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families who are affected by cancer and we are accomplishing this goal through the FCS Foundation.”

FCS Foundation Board Member Shelly Glenn, who also serves as Chief Marketing and Sales Officer for FCS, said, “The Foundation pays for non-medical expenses, such as mortgage or rent, utilities or car payments, for qualified cancer patients in order to relieve some stress and worry they may have about paying these bills, so they can concentrate on what’s really important – their own treatment and recovery from cancer. Reaching the million dollar mark is a momentous achievement and it inspires all of us to do even more.”

The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization assisting cancer patients in need throughout the state of Florida. Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute pays for FCSF staff salaries and overhead expenses, so that nearly 100% of all donations go directly to qualified cancer patients to pay for non-medical living expenses.
